Note: This video moves a bit fast, but you can pause and replay it to see what you need to.
Here’s a step-by-step description:
- Open the app and select the Meals shortcut in the navigation menu at the bottom
- You will need to have recipes created in the Recipe Book and a few of them added to the meal calendar. If you’ve done that, skip to #3.
- Select Recipe Book, then select Add Recipe to create a recipe. Each recipe must at least have a name and a tag. To use the shopping list generator, it will need ingredients as well. After adding these things, select Add.
- Create as many recipes as you’d like to use for your shopping list, then select the calendar icon to return to the meal calendar.
- Select the day of the month you’d like to plan a meal, then Add Meal. In the editor that appears, enter one of the recipes you created. Then select Add.
- Create as many meals as you’d like to use for your shopping list.
- Select the shopping cart icon at the top right of the calendar.
- Select the list you want to use as your grocery list.
- Select the range of days you want to use for your shopping list. The generator will include the ingredients of each meal planned for each of those days.
- Before you go on, see the note below about the Include and Exclude lists*
- The circle next to each item lets you decide whether you want to add it to the list. Check it to add it, uncheck it to leave it off.
- The labels below each ingredient tell you what recipe(s) the ingredient comes from and the quantity required for that recipe. Scroll through the ingredients listed and edit them as needed. For example, you can specify what kind of apples to buy, how much ground beef you need, and that oil is in the baking section.
- When you finish editing, scroll to the bottom and select Add to List. The app will then automatically take you to the list.
*The first time you do this, we recommend using the Include and Exclude tabs to customize your generator:
- The Include tab is used for items that you want on your grocery list every time you generate it, such as bread or eggs. Enter one item per text box and set its section. Use the Add Ingredient button to add more text boxes.
- The Exclude tab is used for recipe ingredients that you usually already have, such as salt and sugar. Enter one item per text box and use the Add Ingredient button to add more text boxes. The toggle switch goes between “Exact” and “Contains.” For example, if a recipe called for garlic salt, and you had added salt to the exclude list, setting it to “Exact” would keep garlic salt on the grocery list while setting it to “Contains” would leave it off.
