The Android operating system and the Family Tools app can sometimes have issues communicating with each other. You can try each of these three fixes when notifications don’t come in on time–or at all. We recommend starting at the top and working down as needed.
Fix 1 – Notification Reset
In the Family Tools app go to Settings, then Profile, then Notifications. Turn off all notifications and close the app.
Next, on your Android phone, go to Settings, then Notifications, then App Settings (this could be slightly different depending on phone and Android version). Once you are in your phone’s settings for app notifications, find Family Tools in the list and disable notifications.
Now open the Family Tools app again and go to Settings, then Profile, then Notifications, and select Calendar Events. This should trigger Android to ask if you would like to allow notifications for Family Tools. Select Allow. Notifications should start working properly.
Fix 2 – Notification Reset with Cleared Cache
Fix 2 is similar to Fix 1. This fix adds an app cache clearing step.
In the Family Tools app, go to Settings, then Profile, then Notifications. Turn off all notifications and close the app.
Next, on your Android phone, go to Settings, then Notifications, then App Settings (this could be slightly different depending on phone and Android version). Once you are in your phone’s settings for app notifications, find Family Tools in the list and disable notifications.
Now go back to your Android phone Settings, go to Apps, and then find the Family Tools app in the list of apps on your phone and tap on it. Now select Storage & Cache from your options and tap on Clear cache. (note: these steps may be slightly different depending on phone and Android version)
You can now open the Family Tools app again and go to Settings, then Profile, then Notifications, and select Calendar Events. This should trigger Android to ask if you would like to allow notifications for Family Tools. Select Allow. Notifications should start working properly.
Fix 3 – App Reset
In the Family Tools app go to Settings, then Profile, then Notifications. Turn off all notifications, then log out of your profile and close the app.
Delete the Family Tools app from your device, then recycle/restart your device. As soon as your device is back on, go to the Android Play Store and download the Family Tools app. After logging back in, go to Settings, then Profile, then Notifications, and select Calendar Events. This should trigger Android to ask if you would like to allow notifications for Family Tools. Select Allow. Notifications should start working properly.
Why Do Notification Problems Occur?
It’s usually one of two things:
1) When a user first downloads the Family Tools app, their device asks if would like to enable notifications for it and they decline. Even if that user turns on notifications within the Family Tools app, the device will not allow them.
2) A user installs the app more than once, or has used different Family Tools profiles on the same device. This makes it unclear to the Family Tools app whether it should send a particular profile’s notifications or not.
Regardless of the cause, one of the resets above should resolve the issue.
