What Are Permissions?
Permissions allow parents to add or remove options in the Family Tools app. This gives parents the ability to customize the app to meet the needs of their child’s maturity and needs. To make things easier for parents there are four presets: Parent, Teenager, Child, and Young Child. Presets are the easiest way to set permissions for your family members. While presets are likely the best way to set permissions for family members, Premium users can also adjust each preset as needed.
Permission Presets
There are four presets–Parent, Teenager, Child, and Young Child.
Parent: The user will be able to do everything in the app, including editing anything, add and removing other users, changing other users’ permissions, and managing the family’s premium subscription
Teenager: The user can’t add or remove other users, change others’ permissions, or manage the family’s premium subscription, but otherwise has the same permissions as a Parent. For example, they can create their own chores, add and remove events that aren’t necessarily assigned to them, access the wish lists’ public links, and add and remove meal events and recipes.
Child: The user can add, edit, and delete tasks, events, etc that include themselves in the assignment. They can view everything assigned to them, all events on the calendar, all meal events, and all recipes. They can also set up their own notifications.
Young Child: The user can view everything assigned to them, all meal events, and all recipes. They can’t create anything except notes, and can check off list items.
Note Some permissions require a Standard user (with an email address attached), and will be disabled regardless of preset if an email address has not been attached.
In the Premium version, you can also change each permission setting individually for each user. For example, you could start with the Child preset, but then allow a user to create lists and calendar events that aren’t assigned to them.
